The Suffragettes

Though the start Women's Suffrage movement can be traced back to 1848, it remained very important in gaining equal rights for women long after. The first organization made that was prominent in the movement was the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), which was founded in 1903 by Emmeline Pankhurt with her daughters Christabel and Sylvia.

Peaceful protest did not work for the suffragettes, so, they tried more extreme tactics: chaining themselves to fences, damaging public property, protesting in the streets. The movement mostly started by advocating for the right of women to vote, and, after the 19th Amendment was put in place, the movement fizzled out a little.
